ACUPUNCTURE

When you're experiencing muscle or joint pain, rest and over-the-counter pain relievers don’t always solve the problem. Persistent pain calls for more intensive treatment. Many people are turning to a combination of chiropractic and acupuncture treatments to relieve pain and restore wellness.

Chiropractic care is a non-surgical, drug-free approach to treating pain caused by strains, disc problems, arthritis, and other conditions. Hands-on manipulations and adjustments to the body, especially the spine and joints, offer a way to relieve pain and improve mobility.

Acupuncture treatments can complement traditional chiropractic care to stimulate muscles and nerves that may be causing pain or discomfort in the body. The combined benefits of acupuncture and chiropractic care can help heal the body without painkillers or surgery.

What is Acupuncture?

The history of acupuncture dates back over 3,000 years to ancient China, with millions of people worldwide benefiting from treatments. Acupuncture operates within the ancient belief system that energy flows throughout the body. In short, when energy receptors are interrupted or blocked, physical, mental, and even emotional imbalances can occur. Acupuncture is used to clear these blockages allowing blood and oxygen to flow throughout the body naturally, easing pain and promoting natural healing. Very thin needles are inserted into the skin at particular pressure points to produce an analgesic or painkilling effect.

Western medicine and research studies have confirmed that acupuncture stimulates muscles, nerves, and connective tissues. Acupuncture treatments can boost the body's ability to produce natural painkillers leaving individuals less likely to experience aches and pains.

Benefits of Acupuncture for Health and Wellness

Many people seek acupuncture treatments for back or neck pain, but there are other conditions that can benefit from acupuncture treatments. Acupuncture is often used to treat:

Depression and anxiety

Digestive problems

Seasonal allergies

Asthma

Headaches & Chronic migraines

Arthritis

What to Expect During Your First Treatment

At Bluff Chiropractic & Family Wellness, we will first closely examine, evaluate and consult with you on your current health conditions. We will then explain to you the areas where the needle insertion will occur and why.  After that, we will begin placing small needles into the skin, using anywhere from 5 to 40 needles. Once the needles have been placed, we will perform needle manipulation in which we twirl or stimulate the needles using gentle electrical pulses. Acupuncture is a painless treatment, and you will only feel mild tingling or movement.  After the placement and manipulation have been completed, you will relax for about 30 minutes, and then the needles will be removed. Like chiropractors, acupuncturists are specialists in the medical field and undergo rigorous training and practice. Dr. Lippincott has completed post-graduate training in acupuncture and is passionate about helping people achieve the best health possible.
